Forum on Water Resources in Nelson County on Oct. 15

Friends of Nelson will hold a public forum on “The Importance of Water” on Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson Center. Five speakers will address current and projected water supply and demand, water quality and their impacts on county residents.


Moderated by Ann Coates, Nelson County’s Soil and Water District Manager, the speakers will be:

John Pierce, Environmental Program Manager for the Monacan Indian Nation; 

Makayla Branham, Cultural Preservation Manager for the Monacan Indian Nation;

Justin Shimp, Chairman of the Nelson County Service Authority Board;

Dick Whitehead, Geologist and Nelson County Historian.


The Thomas Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District will provide a resource table with information about funding resources for residential and agricultural properties, including fencing, septic and stormwater.


The Virginia Cooperative Extension will provide a household water testing information table.


Crafts and activities for children will be provided by Friends of Nelson.
