The Central Virginia Land Conservancy will award this year's Conservation Cornerstone to Doug Coleman at its annual Conservation Celebration on Saturday, March 21. Doug recently retired after 32 years as the Executive Director of the non-profit Nature Foundation at Wintergreen. Anyone driving to the resort will see wildflowers along the road that are part of the project he started more than 30 years ago to relocate native plants from areas where they would have been bull-dozed.
Doug's many accomplishments include garnering prestigious environmental national awards for Wintergreen, initiating an annual Spring Wildflower Symposium, and committee work on several books, including the “Flora of Virginia” - the first comprehensive illustrated flora of the Commonwealth. He also worked to secure protection from development of the 1,400 acres of the resort-owned Crawford’s Knob, which harbors a globally rare mountain ecosystem.
The Central Virginia Land Conservancy holds conservation easements in six counties, including Nelson.
You are invited to join the celebration at an award dinner to be held on Saturday, March 21 at the University of Lynchburg Hall Campus Center, 1501 Lakeside Dr, Lynchburg. The event will feature a buffet dinner, live music, a raffle and live auction. Tickets are $60 and can be purchased here Registration Options
